The 6666 Cattle

Black Angus Cattle - The Four Sixes

A true working cattle ranch, the 6666's brings more than 100 years of superior cattle breeding expertise to our new Black Angus cattle program. In fact, you might say our cattle have 140 years of background – ever since Captain Samuel “Burk” Burnett purchased those first 100 head wearing the “6666” brand from Frank Crowley of Denton, Texas, way back in 1868.

The genetics on our cattle are as good as you will find anywhere. Our 10,000 Angus and Black Baldy mother cows consistently produce animals with a moderate frame, good temperament and exceptional feedlot performance. We keep our own replacement heifers and purchase the best quality Black Angus bulls available, stocking one bull for each 15 cows. Furthermore, we cull the bulls based on quality about twice a year.

We have cattle operations at the Guthrie and Dixon Creek Ranches along with leases locations in 5 other states. We retain our own replacement heifers out of our herds.

In the past, we kept our cattle all the way from birth through feed yard. Now, however, we are open to selling steer calves and specialize in the sale of exceptional quality replacement heifers.

Joe Leathers, was reared in Lelia Lake, Texas on his family farm. His parents had a few cows, but primarily raised cotton. As a child he spent long summers moving irrigation pipe and hoeing cotton which developed a strong work ethic that remains with Joe to this day. Joe has worked as a

cowboy all of his adult life including cow/calf operations and training horses. He served the Moorhouse Ranch as wagon boss for several years. In 1999, he joined the 6666 Ranch in Guthrie, Texas. In 2004, Joe was relocated to the Dixon Creek division of the 6666 Ranch in Panhandle, Texas. There he worked as foreman until 2008 when he moved back to Guthrie to serve as the general manager.

Whether your outfit is large or small, we can provide you with top-quality females for your program. Contact Joe at the ranch (806) 596-4457 for more information.
